Will's Coffee House

John Dryden, Dramatist, Critic, Poet Laureate, and my ancestor, frequented a coffee house called Will's almost daily, where he would hold forth on sundry subjects with great wit and aplomb. Same deal here, only without the wit or aplomb.

Quick Cinematic Pop Quiz

In the past two days, I've seen Revenge of the Sith and Batman Begins. One sucked, one didn't. Guess which is which?

Yes, under normal circumstances one might feel compelled to go into critical detail, justifying one's assessment of both works with example and analysis. But really, in these cases, it just seems so superfluous--like saying of an A-Bomb blast: "Now, that was loud--let me explain why." No, no, won't waste my time and yours with a useless exercise in point out the screamingly obvious. One need only place two moments--two small, almost tertiary moments side by side:

Moment One: "Hold me, Ani! Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo!"

Moment Two: "People from your walk have everything to lose. Now you think, just because your mommy and your daddy got shot, you know about the ugly side of life, but you don't. You've never tasted desperate. You're Bruce Wayne, the Prince of Gotham, you'd have to go a thousand miles to meet someone who didn't know your name, so don't come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself. This is a world you'll never understand. And you always fear what you don't understand."

And if that wasn't enough, let's not forget: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Oh, the mind reels at it all...
